24/7 site monitoring

What is it?

Our automated systems monitor your site constantly around the clock. If the site goes down (for any reason), then we know immediately and work to get the site back online. The site monitoring runs on a remote server so regardless of the reason for the site outage (power failure, virus, etc), we detect and fix the problem.

Why you need it

As the first point of contact for your business, your website must be online. Clients and potential clients may access your site at any time and you can lose sales or damage your reputation if your site is not available.

Automated site backups

What is it?

We take weekly backups of your site and store them offsite. In case of any issue, including total hardware failure of your webserver, we restore a working, current version of the site.

Why you need it

Imagine having to rebuild your website from scratch or having to restore recent updates. Imagine losing all of the traffic to your site. Image losing your search engine rankings because your site is offline. Your website can go down or get corrupted by accident or due to malicious activity. Having a recent backup stored in a secure location allows us to quickly restore your site either on the same server or elsewhere if required. This means limited downtime, limited negative consequences, and limited headaches to recover from losing the website.

Site Firewall/Security

What is it?

Like on your computer, a firewall protects against hackers and malware trying to compromise your site. We install and maintain a premium firewall which blocks access from known malicious IP addresses and actively protects the site against threats. We configure your site to restrict administrative access to authorized users with 2-factor authentication.

Why you need it

Malicious users are constantly trying to gain control of computers across the Internet. Webservers are particularly vulnerable since they are available 24/7 and need to be publicly accessible. If hackers take control of your website or modify its contents, then your online reputation can be damaged, your site can be blacklisted, your site can lose traffic (which can equal lost sales), and your site visitors can be infected with malware.

Code Updates

What is it?

Websites are built using many third-party components. This allows for rapid site development built on a robust codebase. The developers of these components periodically release updates to improve functionality or increase security. Four times per year, we review the third-party components of your site and upgrade them to take advantage of these updates and to keep your site safe. Urgent or security updates are applied immediately.

Why you need it

The third-party components of your site evolve to fix bugs, close security holes, or to match evolving browsers and devices. With our code updates, your site also evolves and continues to work properly and stays secure.

Content and Functionality Updates

What is it?

We add new content or new functionality to your website. Examples of new content include press releases, product pages, staff bios, etc. New functionality can range from a petition, testing, chart integration, and much much more. Our service packages include 1 hour of updates per month. Update hours can't be banked.

Why you need it

Your website is not static. You need to add new services or require new functionality. With our updates service, send your instructions and we'll promptly take care of the rest. You don't need to spend time on it or worry how to make those changes. site or adding new functionality.

Link checking

What is it?

Four times per year, we check all links on the site to make sure there are no broken links either internally or to external websites. All broken links are fixed.

Why you need it

Other websites may remove or rename pages which can break links on your website. Broken links on your website look unprofessional, don't help your site users, and can affect your Google ranking.

Browser and device compatibility check

What is it?

Twice per year, we do a comprehensive review of your website to ensure that it is working properly in the latest versions of the major browsers. We also test the site on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. We aim to fix any problems within the 1 hour allocated for site updates (if still available). If we need additional time, we review the issue with you and get your approval before fixing the problem. Any additional time is billed in addition to the monthly fee.

Why you need it

Browsers and devices are released very frequently to keep up with the rapidly evolving Internet. What worked yesterday on your website may not work today because of browser or device evolution. A broken site can result in lost reputation and lost sales.

Reporting

What is it?

How is your site performing? What kind of traffic are you getting? How are people using your website? We use industry-standard, Google Analytics to track and analyse your site performance. Four times per year, we review your site and notify you of any strange or noteworthy activity.

Why you need it

Your site's performance changes as the Internet evolves. Traffic patterns and usage can change and you need to know that to make best use of your website.

Staging Server

What is it?

We maintain a second separate instance of your website used for testing site upgrades before rolling them out to your live site.

Why you need it

A staging server reduces the risk of breaking the site with new updates. We can test on the staging server and make sure that your site continues to work as expected. Once confident in that, then we deploy changes to the live site.

Site Acceleration

What is it?

We optimize your site for maximum performance. We ensure that your site runs as quickly as possible by cleaning up code, enabling smart caching, compressing files, using a premium content delivery network (CDN), and more.

Why you need it

Site visitors abandon your site if it's too slow. Don't give them a reason to leave. Google also penalises slow sites so an unoptimized site ranks lower in search results, making you harder to find online.

24/7 email monitoring

What is it?

We continuously monitor and test your email server to make sure it's online. If there is any problem with the email server, then we know immediately and act to fix the problem.

Why you need it

Though email sometimes seems outdated in the modern age, it remains a mission-critical component of online communication. Email outages can cripple an organization particularly with today's distributed workforces. Don't worry about communicating with your team as we're proactively monitoring your email server.

Fallback server

What is it?

We maintain an exact copy of your existing website on a separate server. In the case of catastrophic failure on your live site, we switch to the mirror with minimal downtime.

Why you need it

A webserver can go down because of hardware failure, denial of service attack, or for many other reasons. With a fallback server, this type of downtime presents a minimal hiccup; we switch to the site mirror while repairs are undertaken on the main server. This happens quickly and with minimal downtime for your site's visitors.

Standards Compliance Audit

What is it?

Twice per year, we review your site to ensure it meets web coding standards. We flag major issues and provide an estimate of time required for fixing problems. With your approval, we implement the changes. Implementation hours are billed in addition to the monthly fee.

Why you need it

By complying with web coding standards, your site performs more reliably and predictably across the wide range of browsers and devices used by site visitors. It also offers a measure of future-proofing as new browsers and devices are introduced.

Accessibility Compliance Audit

What is it?

Once per year, we go through your site to make sure that it's accessible to visitors with disabilities (e.g. reduced vision) and using alternate browsers (like screen readers). We notify you of any problems and estimate the time required to correct them. With your permission, we'll fix the issues, while aiming to stay within the 1 hour allocated for site updates (if still available). Any extra time is billed in addition to the monthly fee.

Why you need it

Your site should be accessible for ethical reasons, maximum reach, and to meet regulatory requirements. Being accessible means your site and organisation are inclusive - not rejecting any group because they may have reduced vision or similar limitations on how they access your website. You reach more people by having an accessible site which can directly help your sales and marketing efforts. Lastly, some jurisdictions (like Ontario) require sites to be accessible or your organisation can be fined. Avoid these penalties by having an accessible website.
